Insights

Reporting and visualization workspace with folders, visualizations, and supported report types.

The Insights module is the reporting and visualization workspace for operational analytics. It helps teams organize content into folders, open existing visualizations, and create new analytics assets from supported sources. This area is intended to turn device and workflow data into decision-ready dashboards and views.

In the current platform, Insights supports a hierarchical browsing model: top-level folders, folder-level subfolders/visualizations, and a dedicated visualization view. Users can search, sort, star frequently used items, and manage folder or visualization metadata from context menus. Creation flows are action-driven through the New button and modals.

Open Insights

To open the Insights module, do the following:

  1. In the left sidebar, click Insights under Operations.
  2. Confirm the page title is Insights.
  3. Confirm the top-right actions include New and Ask Optra.

Understand the Insights Home View

The home view is designed for fast access. Recents provides recently updated folders/visualizations, while the table provides the full library. This layout helps users continue recent analysis work quickly and still manage a large catalog.

  1. Review Recents for recently used insight folders.
  2. Use the search box Search folders and visualizations... to filter results.
  3. Use table sorting by clicking sortable column headers.
  4. Use the star icon to mark or unmark frequently used folders.

Create a New Folder (Home)

To create a new folder from Insights home, do the following:

  1. On the Insights home page, click New.
  2. In the New folder modal, enter Name.
  3. Click Save.
  4. The system opens the new folder for next actions.

Open a Folder and Use Library Controls

Inside a folder, the page shows breadcrumbs, recents, library controls, and a combined table of subfolders and visualizations. This lets users manage structure and content without switching screens. The Starred quick toggle supports frequent access workflows for shared teams.

  1. Click any folder row to open it.
  2. Use breadcrumbs to navigate back to parent locations.
  3. Review Recents and Library in the folder context.
  4. Toggle Starred for the current folder context when needed.
  5. Use search:
    • Search folders and visualizations... in folder views.
    • Search visualizations... in subfolder views.

Create New Insight Content from Folder Context

To create insight content from folder context, do the following:

  1. Inside a folder, click New.
  2. In New insight, choose one:
    • New folder
    • New visualization
  3. If creating a folder, enter a name and click Save.
  4. If creating a visualization, choose a supported report type and complete required fields.

Create a New Visualization

The New Visualization flow supports multiple source types depending on enabled features. This allows organizations to consolidate analytics content while preserving source-specific configuration paths.

  1. Open New visualization from folder context.
  2. Select a report type (availability depends on feature enablement), such as:
    • PowerBI Report
    • Superset Report
    • Tableau
    • Webpage Embedded
    • Visualization
  3. Provide required source fields for the selected type.
  4. Complete the create flow and save.
  5. Open the created visualization from the table or recents list.

Edit or Delete Folders and Visualizations

To edit or delete folders and visualizations, do the following:

  1. In the insights table, open the row menu (...) for the target item.
  2. Click Edit to update metadata.
  3. Click Delete to remove the item.
  4. Confirm deletion in the confirmation modal.
  5. If deleting a folder, note that nested folders/visualizations are also deleted.

Work with Visualization View

When a visualization is opened, users can navigate back, star/unstar, and manage that item from the header. Depending on type, the page renders embedded source content (for example Power BI, Superset, Tableau, embedded site, or internal visualization).

  1. Open a visualization from folder or recents.
  2. Use the back button to return to folder view.
  3. Use the star icon to mark/unmark the visualization context.
  4. Use row/header menu actions to Edit or Delete the visualization.
